Hello Colleague,

We hope you’re well and that the summer 2023 exam series has got off to a good start for you and your students.

If you missed them, we published two new blogs last month. To mark International Women in Mathematics Day, our colleagues at the Advanced Mathematics Support Programme (AMSP) wrote. ‘International Women in Mathematics Day 2023: finding inspiration for your students’. The blog discusses how to inspire your female students to continue with maths after GCSE, with engaging ideas and links to resources included.

Ruth also published a blog about how our Core Maths qualifications support students studying AS or A Level PE. She looks at the maths needed for PE and how studying Core Maths can strengthen students’ abilities, plus highlights some useful cross-curricular resources. Take a read and please do share the blog with any colleagues teaching PE too.

As ever, if you have any queries or if we can give you any further support, please get in touch. Our role is to support you as you deliver our qualifications.

Best wishes to all your students taking exams this year!

To recap, remember that for the 2023 exams:

  • grading in 2023 will broadly be in line with before the pandemic,
  • advance information has not been issued,
  • GCSE (9-1) Maths students will receive a formulae sheet in each exam,
  • Level 3 FSMQ: Additional Maths students will receive an extra formulae sheet in the exam.

For more information about the 2023 formulae sheets, please see our subject update, as well as Steven’s blog on the Level 3 FSMQ: Additional Maths extra formulae sheet.

We also have formulae tests and formulae sheet top tips resources available. You can download these from the qualification webpages.

post-exam survey

Your feedback is invaluable to us and we’d really love to hear your thoughts on our 2023 exams.

It’ll only take a few minutes and your input helps us understand how students found the exam, what worked well and what didn't. We'll be using this information to improve exams in the future.

Teachers in a network meeting

After this summer’s exams we’ll be running free online network meetings for several of our maths qualifications. At each, we’ll be speaking to you about a few topics important to the qualification and giving you the latest updates on support. Throughout the meetings we’ll be keen to hear your feedback; you’ll also have the chance to ask questions about any aspect of the qualification and share your ideas.

Whether you’re an experienced teacher or just starting out, get yourself a place and we look forward to speaking to you there.

Upcoming OCR Maths professional development

Our final professional development session of the 2022-23 year comes up later this month. It’s a session for AS or A Level Maths teachers (of either the A specifications or the B (MEI) specifications) and takes a look at topics introduced in the GCSE specification and how these are developed at AS and A Level.
