Welcome to our June edition

As the exam series draws to a close and we start to work on the remainder of this academic year before heading off for a well-deserved summer break there are a few updates and things to think about.

This year has been fairly full on with discussions with the DfE about the approved activity list, more moderations than ever, more inset days run and a number of new networks now up and running around the country.

The twitter account has been really busy and it is great to see you all using this to help each other and to ask questions, we would love to hear more from you to, so if you are not signed up then please come find us.

We hope you find the information in this newsletter informative and beneficial.  If you require any further advice and guidance please get in touch.

List of approved activities
Cricket - list of approved activities - Sport

Following the DfE consultation that closed in December 2018 there have been a series of meetings between the DfE, ourselves and the other awarding bodies.

We are currently awaiting a final decision from the Minister regarding any possible changes to the approved activities list for GCSE and AS/A Level.

Any changes made will be for first teach from 2020. For candidates part way through the course and those starting in 2019 please use the current list. We will keep you updated with any further developments in due course.

Seasonal Sports Assessment – GCSE and A Level
Athletics - NEA sport assessment

Please be reminded that all NEA marks must be with OCR by the 31 March 2020.

With this is in mind please ensure that you assess candidates in activities which are considered seasonal in good time.

For those doing activities such as Cricket, Athletics etc. you may wish to consider assessing before the end of the summer or as soon as the Autumn Term starts to ensure they are assessed during their competitive season.

Please also carefully consider the planning of Skiing and Snowboarding assessments as we are aware that historically these have often been conducted during Easter Holiday Ski Trips which fall after the deadline and are therefore no longer accepted.

GCSE Physical Education – Teaching Resources

Following our announcement in the December of the release of the first 3 teacher PowerPoints we are pleased to inform you that the rest of the specification has now been covered and a further 10 teaching resources are available.

These resources can be accessed from the 'planning and teaching' section of qualification page under the 'topic exploration packs'. GCE coming soon!
