Cambridge Technicals

Prepare for change

Less admin more time to teach

Cambridge Technicals are vocational qualifications at Level 2 and Level 3 for students aged 16+. They can be offered alongside A Levels as part of a balanced curriculum.

Designed to support progression to higher education, they attract UCAS tariff points and are eligible for Key Stage 5 Performance tables for 2021-2022

Prepare for change

Following our recent Prepare For Change events, we’re delighted to share with you the presentations from the day along with a whole host of key support materials and online training to help you plan & deliver your vocational curriculum.

Our priority is to support everyone to continue teaching Cambridge Technicals successfully. We’ll continue to keep you fully informed of any changes you need to make in plenty of time

September 2019 will be the final time centres can make registrations on Level 3 vocational qualifications that have no external assessment. To ensure your centre’s curriculum can continue to offer Level 3 recognised vocational qualifications as part of a study programme, centres who have been delivering 2012 Cambridge Technicals can switch to a Level 3 Cambridge Technical 2016 suite.

Which qualifications are affected?

The Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) has published the list of qualifications where funding is being withdrawn in England. This includes 24 of our non-examined assessment Level 3 2012 Cambridge Technicals. All 2016 Cambridge Technicals qualifications are unaffected.

We have no plans at present to withdraw any of our 2012 Cambridge Technicals qualifications since they are used across the UK. We’ll help you to identify your options, including moving to the 2016 Cambridge Technicals.

Funding in England will continue for those students who begin their study before August 2020 up to their completion.
