We provide a range of advice, resources and assessment support throughout your teaching journey with us. These help you plan, deliver and prepare your students for assessment. You can find out more about the range of support we offer to you and your students below.

Remember to sign up for email updates so we can keep you up-to-date with the latest Geography news, CPD events, Teacher Networks and teaching and assessment support.

The Independent Investigation

In collaboration with the RGS-IBG we ran a CPD event to support teachers in developing a deeper understanding of the Independent Investigation. We explored key areas of the investigation such as developing titles, quantitative and qualitative research as well as GIS and the proposal form. All the resources are available to download for free.

Exemplar investigations are available on Interchange*, these are from the first summer series (2018) and include Principal Moderator commentary. There are further exemplars available from the Independent Investigation feedback and effective marking CPD event.

*Interchange login is required to access the resource. If you do not have a login, please speak to your Exams Officer.

CPD Training Courses

Throughout the year we offer a number of webinars and face-to-face CPD events to support your teaching of our A Level qualification, these resources are available to download from the CPD training hub. The resources include exam feedback from 2018, delivering and marking the Independent Investigation, exploring question development and examiner marking as well as effective exam preparation for the 2019 assessments.

Planning and Teaching Resources

Our Scheme of Work Builder, is a free online tool, which enables you to plan your teaching throughout the year. Our A Level qualification is supported by a wide range of FREE teaching resources that'll help you prepare, we call these Delivery Guides. Use our resources to plan your lessons and inspire your students' learning. The Scheme of Work Builder includes the relevant resources from the delivery guides as you plan your teaching.

Assessment resources

To support you in preparing your students for their assessments we have a number of resources which you can access. You'll find everything from Guides to the Sample Assessment Materials, which explain the assessments in detail and Practice Papers.

All of the A Level components also have candidate exemplars with Principal Examiner commentary (from the 2018 series), these are great resources for understanding what examiners are looking for in candidate answers and these can be read alongside the Principal Examiners Report.

*A Level Geography is also due to move onto ExamBuilder in Autumn 2019. ExamBuilder is our free question-building platforms which allows you to design your own topic tests, homework activities and end of year mock exams.

Analyse student performance

We have a free tool called Active Results which supports you to:

  • Review reports on the performance of individual candidates, cohorts of students and whole centres
  • Analyse results at question and/or topic level
  • Identify trends across the centre
  • Facilitate effective planning and delivery of courses
  • Identify areas of the curriculum where students excel or struggle
  • Help pinpoint strengths and weaknesses of students and teaching departments.

You can then focus your planning on particular topics / skills within teaching and learning and student revision activities.
