Imberhorne School from East Grinstead are doing what they can to help out during coronavirus
Their Science department has donated all of their safety goggles to the local NHS hospitals and surgeries. Disposable aprons have gone to support care homes and vulnerable people. Polythene gloves have been donated to a homeless charity and students have been making scrub bags and fabric masks for practitioners in the local area (pictured right, two year 8 students make scrub bags at home).
Suzi Collyer, Science teacher and Leader of Health and Social Care, who teaches both Cambridge Nationals and Cambridge Technicals in Health and Social Care, commented: “I’m very proud of our past students who are currently working in the NHS and other important care sectors as well as those students currently studying Health and Social Care and will hopefully be NHS staff in the future. It is lovely to see the qualities required of care staff in many of my students and I see empathy in particular get stronger over the four years from Year 10 to 13 and through to university entry.”
Imberhorne has stayed open for vulnerable students and children of key workers and a team of volunteers from the school have delivered packed lunches to students each day. The local Waitrose has donated food bags to schools’ families who need extra support at the moment and sent treats to staff and students over Easter. Local wine bar, Oliver’s Coffee and Wine, has delivered a shipment of soft drinks and snacks to the school knowing it is still open for key workers and M&S Gatwick also sent some Easter treats.
Thank you to Imberhorne for sharing their story and for doing their bit to support the local community and students during these challenging times.
