Marie Bessant

"I joined OCR in July 2014.

"As one of OCR's Lead Subject Advisors, I'm also the Performing Arts specialist. I led the development of the new Music GCSEs and A Levels, and now oversee the management, development and support of Music and Drama GCSE and A Level, and the Cambridge Technical Performing Arts qualifications.

"I've ten years of experience teaching Music and the Performing Arts at GCSE, A Level and Level 2–4 vocational qualifications, including as a Head of Department at secondary schools and FE colleges.

"I'm an organist and pianist with a love for rock music, shopping, food and reading (anything from Austen to Atwood, and particularly anything fantasy and sci-fi). I have a particular love for Kris Kristofferson!)"

Part of the Team since 2023

"Before joining OCR in 2023 I've been a teacher and lecturer in various secondary schools, FE colleges and specialist Performing Arts schools. My training was at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, after which I went on to work in the theatre industry as a director, choreographer and performer; before finding my passion for education and training.

"I have 10 years' experience teaching Drama, Dance and Musical Theatre at levels 1-5. I've also been Education Officer for a touring theatre company. I'm a huge Musical Theatre fan and couldn’t possibly pick a favourite musical, but some of my favourites include Cabaret, Rent, Spring Awakening and Kinky Boots!"
