Introducing our Music Subject Advisors...

Marie Bessant

Part of the Team since 2014

Marie Bessant"I joined OCR in July 2014.  As one of OCR's Lead Subject Advisors, I'm also the Performing Arts specialist. I led the development of the new Music GCSEs and A Levels, and now oversee the management, development and support of Music and Drama GCSE and A Level, and the Cambridge Technical Performing Arts qualifications.

I've ten years of experience teaching Music and the Performing Arts at GCSE, A Level and Level 2–4 vocational qualifications, including as a Head of Department at secondary schools and FE colleges.

I'm an organist and pianist with a love for rock music, shopping, food and reading (anything from Austen to Atwood, and particularly anything fantasy and sci-fi). I have a particular love for Kris Kristofferson!)"

Part of the Team since 2023

"Before joining OCR in 2023 I've been a teacher and lecturer in various secondary schools, FE colleges and specialist Performing Arts schools. My training was at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, after which I went on to work in the theatre industry as a director, choreographer and performer; before finding my passion for education and training.

"I have 10 years' experience teaching Drama, Dance and Musical Theatre at levels 1-5. I've also been Education Officer for a touring theatre company. I'm a huge Musical Theatre fan and couldn’t possibly pick a favourite musical, but some of my favourites include Cabaret, Rent, Spring Awakening and Kinky Boots!"
