Hello Colleague,

We hope the term has got off to a great start for you and things are going well in your classrooms.

If you have students sitting the November 2023 GCSE (9-1) Maths assessments,

For those of you attending the Complete Maths #MathsConf33 near Wakefield this Saturday, make sure you visit the OCR Maths stand and chat with the team. We’ll be able to answer your qualification queries and support you with the latest resources & training we have available. You'll be able to pick up a few freebies from the stand, too…

This month we’re also very pleased to introduce a new member of our team, Amy Dai, who joins us in supporting you to deliver our maths qualifications. Amy says “I’ve been teaching for five years, with experience in both state and independent schools. I’m excited to bring my knowledge and experience into a role that allows me to support teachers across the nation. I graduated from the University of York with a degree in Mathematics and Economics and continued learning throughout my teaching career, recently gaining an MA in Education. When I’m not working, I enjoy playing video games and board games.” Welcome to the team, Amy. :)

As ever, please get in touch if you have any queries or if we can give you any further support. Our role is to support you as you deliver our qualifications.

New blogs for A Level Maths and Level 3 FSMQ: Additional Maths

Steven has again been hard at work and published two new blogs recently.

Flipped learning: ideas for A level Maths’ highlights some ideas and websites you can use when using this teaching approach with AS and A Level Maths students. If you’re unsure about flipped learning and would like to learn more, check out ‘Flipped learning: an introduction’ from our colleague Nicola.

In ‘Level 3 FSMQ: Additional Mathematics – formulae sheets and support for the summer exam’, Steven reviews the standard formulae sheet for the qualification, included on page 2 of the question paper. He summarises the content supported by the formulae sheet and shares ideas on how to make the most out of it, both before the exam and during it.

Updated submission options for Entry Level Certificate in Maths (R449)
Teacher and student in class

From the summer 2024 series, you’ll be able to use our new Submit for Assessment digital submission service to upload your students’ work. Submit for Assessment replaces OCR Repository for the submission of moderation samples. When making entries for summer 2024 and beyond, you’ll be able to choose from either ‘Moderated upload’ or ‘Moderated postal’ options, depending on your preference.

We’ve amended sections 4a and 4c in our specification to reflect this change, confirming that students’ work for moderated units can be uploaded to OCR using our new Submit for Assessment service or sent by post.

Download the amended specification from the qualification webpage or Teach Cambridge.
