Year 11 student Oliver, from UTC Reading, started producing PPE on his home printer

After engaging with design engineers online and prototyping solutions, Oliver began printing headbands and applying acetate from UTC Reading’s Product Design department, to form the facial shield part of the mask. Oliver is now supplying face shields to a local surgery on a weekly basis.

Janet Elgar, Engineering technician at UTC Reading, has been handling any requests for PPE and now has the UTC's own 3D Printer at home. They have been supplying PPE to Royal Berks Hospital, West Berkshire Council, Wexham, Wokingham Council and a range of care homes. They have just started working with UTC Oxfordshire, as well as Eton College.

Oliver and Janet are now working with other students and ex-students at UTC Reading to help with demand. They have also donated their own supplies of material masks and latex gloves to the NHS. Through donations from the local rotary club they have funded 3D printers to increase the supply of PPE.
