Supporting you during coronavirus

Hi everyone

We hope you're keeping well.

We've heard lots of updates from Ofqual this week, and have summarised the key points about the appeals process, outcomes of the autumn 2020 consultation and the new consultation for summer 2021 for you.

We'd also like to say thank you again for all your hard work in getting centre assessment grades and rank orders submitted to us. This was a brand new process in an unprecedented time so thank you. We’d really appreciate feedback on how you feel we've supported you over the last few months - if you haven't already, please complete our short survey.

You may also be wondering what happens next. To help you to understand how GCSE, AS and A Level grades will be awarded this summer, we’ve created a simple infographic showing the process for standardising grades. Guidance for Cambridge Nationals and Technicals will be available next week.

Results day this year is likely to look, and feel, very different for both students and staff. Lucy Carey, Subject Advisor for Psychology, speaks to David Clarke, Head of Sixth Form at Comberton Village College to find out what measures they are putting in place to help students celebrate their success, accept any disappointments and ensure staff and student well-being on the day.

As always, we’d like to thank you for your patience at this time.

Now you’ve given us your centre assessment grades and rank orders, you may be wondering what happens next.

To help schools and colleges to understand how GCSE, AS and A Level grades will be awarded this summer, we’ve created a simple infographic showing the process after submitting centre assessment grades to issuing final results.

In the coming weeks we'll be sharing some videos and FAQs to help explain how we will standardise grades using a process developed by Ofqual.  Final grades may be different from the centre assessment grades you submitted to ensure grading standards are consistent across all schools and colleges.

We’re also creating guidance about the processes for Cambridge Nationals and Technicals which we’ll share next week.

Preparing for 2020 results day: Q&A with Comberton Village College

We want student well-being to be at the heart of everything we do. We know students have been anxious about centre assessment grades and getting final results this summer.

Stress could be particularly acute on results days, which seem likely to have a very different feel about them this year.

Details of GCSE, AS and A Level exams this autumn confirmed

Ofqual has confirmed there will be an exam series for GCSE, AS and A Levels this autumn. involving the same number and format of exams as in any normal series.

For Maths, this will include Core Maths, but not FSMQ.

There will be no NEA, with the exception of Art & Design where we’ll be setting a new task for students to complete under supervised conditions.

Autumn series

The exact timing of exams is still to be confirmed but the aim is for AS and A Level exams to be held in October and GCSE exams in November. The autumn series provides an opportunity for students, such as private candidates, who were unable to receive a calculated grade this summer, to get a result.
