Introducing our refreshing new A Level Psychology
After a comprehensive review of our A Level, we’re planning some exciting improvements. Our new qualification has been shaped by teacher feedback and collaboration with key organisations – including The British Psychological Society and The Association for Teachers of Psychology.
With a streamlined specification, straightforward, consistent assessments and updated content, it’s designed to support teachers and ensure all students can demonstrate their true ability and achieve the results they deserve
We're currently working with Ofqual to have our new specification accredited, with a planned first teach date of September 2027 (subject to accreditation). In the meantime, you can:
- explore our draft specification and sample assessment materials
- sign up for our updates to stay informed about the development
- speak to one of our team about our plans for the new qualification.

Reasons to choose our A Level Psychology
More time, more clarity
Our qualification is designed to save you time and reduce workload – giving you more time to focus where it matters most. This means:
- a reduced the number of core and key studies, so there’s less content to cover
- no need to research which studies to teach – we’ve done the hard work for you by naming them in the specification
- fewer studies and a consistent assessment approach mean you can spend less time on exam technique and more supporting your students and consolidating their learning.
Psychology for today’s students
Our specification is contemporary, relevant and covers the topics students care about.
- Modern content and new studies, including the use of AI and racial bias in mental health
- Studies are evaluated in a contemporary way and papers feature recent examples of research, articles and topics
- Unique topics in environmental psychology, and sport and exercise psychology
- An up-to-date, extended mental health topic, and compulsory criminal psychology one – both highly relevant and consistently popular with students
Accessible and consistent assessment
Our consistent, straightforward assessment approach means you know what to expect, and your students have the opportunity to show their true ability. All exams:
- are 2 hours long, with a maximum of 80 marks
- follow a consistent structure across all papers
- use familiar question types and a max mark tariff of 12
- apply a clear and consistent set of command terms
- build clear signposting and visual indicators throughout to guide students through the paper
- require students to complete just one statistical test – with clear guidance in the spec on what’s expected.
Support that makes a real difference
We’ll make sure you have everything you need to plan, teach and prepare for exams with confidence:
- Access to a named subject advisor, whether you need support about the specification, the assessment process or resources
- Practical planning tools, including curriculum planners and schemes of work for every component and option
- Assessment resources to build confidence, such as candidate exemplars and practice papers
- Everything you need to plan, teach and assess all in one place: our secure online platform, Teach Cambridge
*Please note, our A Level Psychology qualification has not yet been accredited by Ofqual. While our draft specification and sample assessment materials have been published to enable teachers to have early sight, changes may be required as part of the accreditation process. We can give no assurances the proposed qualification or first teach date will remain as they currently are.
